BARKER —
Winning pitcher senior Destiny Metzler hurled six frames, striking out two and walking two Monday, sparking Barker past visiting Newfane, 19-5, in Niagara-Orleans League girls softball action.
Elsewhere, Royalton-Hartland and Albion also posted victories to improve to 3-0. In Middleport, Roy-Hart trimmed visiting Medina (1-2 N-O), 4-2; while visiting Albion bested winless CSAT, 10-2.
In one other N-O game Monday, Wilson earned it's first N-O league win in a big way with a 4-0 victory over previously-unbeaten Akron (2-1 N-O).
Barker exploded for seven runs in the first, finishing with 15 hits.
Metzler helped her own cause at the plate with a two bagger, finishing with three hits on the day. Junior Kenzi Strickland also had three hits with a two-bagger for head coach Shannon McCracken's team (2-1 N-O, 4-4 overall).
Junior Kayla added three hits, while senior Danny Senior and sophomore Olivia Denny chipped in with two hits apiece, with Denny socking a double. Freshman Destiny Hillman did a good job in relief of Metzler.
Katie Shaw had two hits for Newfane (0-3 N-O).
• N-O SOFTBALL
Roy-Hart 4, Medina 2
MIDDLEPORT — Royalton-Hartland's Taylor Fry hurled a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts to lead Roy-Hart past Medina.
Trailing 1-0, Roy-Hart moved on top to stay by scoring twice in the bottom of the third inning on a lead-off double by Olivia Kelkenberg, a single by Lindsay Yates, a wild pitch and sacrifice by Ashley Bower.
A walk and a bunt single helped to set up what proved to be the winning run in the fourthfor Roy-Hart, which also tallied once in the fifth on a single by Bower and a fielder's choice.
In the top of the seventh, Medina cut the deficit to 4-2 when Stormi Kruger led off with a triple and came home on an error. The Lady Mustangs got two runners aboard on a single by Jennifer Molisani and a walk, but both were left stranded as Fry bore down to get out of the jam with three clutch, game-ending strikeouts.
The Lady Rams next host CSAT at 4:45 p.m. today and will be wearing teal jerseys in a tribute to their former teammate, Meghan Redenbach, who passed away in December of 2010 from cancer.
Albion 10, CSAT 2
BUFFALO — Winning pitcher Jenn Knaak hurled a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
Knaak also banged out four hits as Sarah Papponetti had two and Halle Jurs drove in three runs.
Jurs had a two-run double to highlight a four-run third inning for the Lady Purple Eagles. Two walks and a single by Knaak set up that threat.
Albion added three runs in the fifth as Jurs, Knaak and Ali O'Hearn drove in runs.
Wilson 4, Akron 0
WILSON – Alyssa DiCesare drove in three runs with a pair of singles and Sam Ess plated one on a bunt single to lead Wilson past visiting Akron.
Lindsay Bryer earned the shutout in the circle, scattering six hits and striking out 13 Lady Tiger batters.
Akron pitcher Alex Kidder also struck out 13 and gave up only three hits.
• ECIC GIRLS SOFTBALL
Starpoint 7, Lake Shore 1
PENDLETON — Head coach Joe Hill's Lady Spartans earned their first ECIC Division II win of the season on Monday and improved to 2-3 overall.
Winning pitcher Ashley Owens, just a sophomore, fanned eight, walked just one and allowed no earned runs in a strong performance.
Junior Emily Whitman led Starpoint at the plate with two hits, two run scored and two RBIs. Senior Kelsey Dickerson added a pair of hits and two runs.
Starpoint plays at Maryvale at 4:45 p.m. today in a non-league contest.

Starpoint 3, Lake Shore 2
PENDLETON — Tim Doores and Scott Wiktorowski earned singles wins for head coach Rob Olear's team (1-2 ECIC II) . Wiktorowski beat Dan Abrams in a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 barn burner as the Spartans senior was down 5-2 with four match points in the third set.
Jon Vitali and Sean Dietz won at doubles for Starpoint.
