Lockport spikers tame Blue Devils

H.S. ROUNDUP (9/17/12): Newfane, Roy-Hart and Wilson earn N-O girls soccer victories.

WILSON —

Staying perfect on the season in both the Niagara Frontier League and overall, the Lockport boys varsity volleyball team continued its dominant ways on Monday with a straight set win over visiting Kenmore West.

With the 25-13, 25-5, 25-15 victory at LHS, head coach Joe Whalen's Lions improved to 3-0 in the NFL and are 5-0 overall.

Leading the way for the blue and gold on Monday were sophomore Jason Donorovich and junior Shawn Moore, both middle hitters.

Donorovich finished with seven kills and three blocks, while Moore added eight straight service points in the last game.

“The big men came through for me tonight,” Whalen said. “West was a weak passing team and couldn't get any offense going, so it was also a difficult night trying to build momentum and to stay focused because of that.”

Next up, the Lions play at Starpoint in a non-league contest at 5 p.m. Wednesday, then at 5 p.m. Friday, Lockport plays a difficult match at Grand Island.

“It was a workman's night. We did what we had to do,” Whalen said. “The subs got in and did a nice job. The subs are gaining the experience we'll need from them down the stretch.”
