Stern's pair sparks the Panthers

H.S. ROUNDUP (9/5/12)Newfane eighth grader has big game off the bench.

The future certainly looks bright for Newfane boys soccer after eighth grader Brett Stern helped lead the Panthers to a 3-2 win over Medina on Wednesday in the 2012 boys soccer opener for both schools at Vets Park.

Stern tallied two goals off the bench for head coach Bob Roach’s team (1-0 N-O, 2-1 overall).
Trailing the Mustangs 1-0, Stern tallied two goals in the first half to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.
The host Mustangs tied the game late in the second half, but Newfane junior Patrick Eadie drilled a 20-foot free kick into   the back of the net to give the blue and white the victory.
“I thought Bett did a good job off the bench with two finishes. He did a nice for us,” Roach said.
Drew McMurray from Anthony Pane and McMurray from Thomas Goetze with 18:43 remaining in the second half were the Medina scores.
