LOCKPORT —
Singles victories by Connor Dry and Brian Smist on Friday helped propel Lockport past visiting Kenmore East, 4-1, topping Niagara Frontier League boys tennis action.
Senior co-captains Connor Dry and Brian Smist posted wins at first and second singles, respectively.
Dry beat Alex Luisowski of the Bulldogs, 6-3, 6-2; while Smist bested Ken East's Milan Omcikus, 6-1, 6-4.
Lions head coach Dave Shambach gave one half of his undefeated first doubles tandem, Bailey Reid, his first varsity start at singles and the talented sophomore played a strong match, despite losing to Mike Silbak by a narrow 3-6, 6-7 (6-8).
The other half of the Lions' undefeated first doubles tandem, J.J. Napoli, improved to 6-0, teaming with Jeremy Cogovan to beat Nick Jurewicz and Frank Wozniak of the Bulldogs, 6-4, 6-3. At second doubles, Lockport's Joel Schlitzer and Luke Sciandra defeated Sam Tulipane and Justin Haieck, 7-5, 6-2.
With the win, the Lions improved to 5-3 in the NFL. Ken East dropped to 2-7 in the league.
• ECIC BOYS TENNIS
Starpoint 4, Hamburg 1
HAMBURG — Head coach Rob Olear's Spartans improved to 4-5 in ECIC Div. II with a big road win on Friday.
Tim Doores (7-3 this year) and Scott Wiktorowski (8-2) earned wins at second and third singles.
Winning at doubles for Starpoint were Sean Dietz-Rich Mullen (S) and Alec Toth-Charlie Campanella.
Wes Ireland won at first singles for the Bulldogs (2-7 ECIC II).
• N-O COED TENNIS
Wilson 3, Albion 2.5
WILSON — Zachary Moxham, George Watters Jr. and Isaiah Barrett made it a singles sweep for the Lakemen.
Joyce Lalonde and Jose Sertive won at first doubles for the Purple Eagles.
Barker 3.5, Akron 2
BARKER — The Raiders improved to 4-1 in the N-O by downing Akron (1-6 N-O).
Barker swept the three singles matches with Derek Fuerch, Joe Devereaux and Zach Smolinsky claiming victory.
Newfane 3, Roy-Hart 2.5
MIDDLEPORT — Jason Jolley posted a first singles win for the visiting Panthers, who improved to 4-2 in the N-O. The Rams dropped to 2-4.
Earning doubles wins for Newfane were Jarret Hutchison-Mark Badding and Ryan Obusek-Shannon Button.
Kurtis Parker and Jeff Durbin had singles wins for the Rams.
• BOYS LACROSSE
Akron 10, Lockport 5
AKRON — Aaron Quast netted two goals and added an assist for head coach Scott Reddinger's Lions (3-7).
Zach Brown (two assists), Zach Dewey and Ian Tomczak also scored for Lockport. Andrew Edbauer also had an assist for the visiting Lions.
• GIRLS LACROSSE
Lockport 13, Eden 7
The host Lady Lions (3-2 NFL, 5-5 overall) got five goals and three assists from super sophomore Roserita DiMillo, their team's leading scorer in 2012, in Friday's big win over visiting Eden.
Also for head coach Natalia Doherty's Lady Lions, Lizzy Bull netted four goals and had one assist and Jillian Golding netted two goals and added three assists.
Jamie Dimond and Drusilla Updegrove also scored for LHS.
Winning goalie junior Azlia Douglas made 10 saves.
Playing good defense for Lockport were Paige Kelkenberg and Elise Hayden.
