H.S. ROUNDUP (5-1-12): Lady lacrosse Lions roll over Falls, track Lions sweep Lancers

LOCKPORT — Lockport got off to a big start Tuesday with seven first-half goals, en route to a 10-2 victory over visiting Niagara Falls,   topping Niagara Frontier League girls lacrosse action.

Jillian Golding led the Lady Lions goal-scoring parade with three first-half goals, while Roserita DiMillo and Drusilla Updegrove   added two goals apiece for the winners (3-2 NFL).

Also scoring goals for the Lady Lions were  Sara Quirk, Allison Sakowski and Chamot Erinne.

Lockport goalie Azlia Douglas made nine saves for the win.

NFL BOYS TRACK

Lockport 124, Lew-Port 16

The Lions swept all but one event at chilly Max D. Lederer Field on Tuesday, improving to 3-0 in the Niagara Frontier League.

Senior Ezra Nwachukwu was a triple individual winner for head coach Miles Patterson’s Lions, winning the 110 high hurdles   (:16.1), the 200 (:23.3) and the 400 (:51.7).

Double individual winners for Lockport were Zach Chenez (1,600, 3,200) and Tyler Chapman (400 intermediate hurdles, triple   jump). Others with first-place finishes for the blue and gold were Josh Beshaw (100), Tom Furlong (shot put), Dan Jones (800),   Matt Simpson (discus), Josh Steinman (pole vault) and  Aaron Craig (high jump).

The Lions also swept the relays with Matt Kaczmarek, Dan Jones, Mitch Loiacano and Mike Feeney winning the 3,200 relay (8:41.5), Kyle   Faling, Ben Cain, Kyiah Griffin and Feeney taking the 1,600 relay (3:42) and Chapman, Nwachukwu, Beshaw and Jordan Davis blazing   to a 44.4-second win in the 400 relay.

Dillon Krueger won the long jump for the Lancers.

“The kids continue to to improve and they continue to work hard,” coach Patterson said.

ECIC BOYS TRACK

Starpoint 78, Amherst 63

AMHERST — Evan Majewski (100, 200), A.J. Joslin (1,600, 800) and Liam Jermyn (shot put, discus) were double winner for the   Spartans.

With the win, Starpoint improved to 3-0 in ECIC III.

NFL GIRLS TRACK

Lockport 101,

Lew-Port 40

The defending NFL-champion Lady Lions got a double-individual win from Faith Heal in beating the visiting Lady Lancers.

The fleet-footed Heal won the 200 in 27.3 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 1-inch.

Other winners for LHS were J’vonna Clark (100), Hannah Kurbs (1,500), Rachel Williams (shot put), Kailin Szymanski (400),   Clare Whalen (800), Keeley Ralyea (discus), Lang (3,000) and Olivia Kurbs (pole vault).

Lockport’s Lang, Whalen, Hannah Kurbs and Lauren Wager won the 3,200 relay  in  11:03.9, while Clark, Szymanski, Heal and   a returning Casey Oliphant took the 400 relay in a spectacular 51.3 seconds.

Angela Gallo was a double individual winner (long jump, triple jump) for the Lady Lancers.

ECIC GIRLS TRACK

Starpoint 92, Amherst 48

AMHERST — Abby Boyce won the 400 intermediate hurdles and triple jump and then tied for first in the high jump for the winning   Lady Spartans.

Starpoint moved to 3-0 in ECIC III.

N-O TRACK

BARKER — The defending N-O-champion Barker boys track squad boosted its record to 4-0 with a 97-44 victory over visiting Newfane   (0-2).

Tyler Scheving was a triple winner for Barker in the 200, 400 and 1,600, in which he set a new school record time of 4:25.4.

Nick Berning tripled for Newfane taking the 100, long jump and triple jump.

Newfane gained a split on the day by downing Barker in the girls meet 82-59.

Kelly Bochnewitch doubled for in the 1,500 and 3,000 and Julia Wright in the shot put and pole vault for Newfane.

Barker got double win efforts from Eliza Dewart in the 100 and 200 and by Rachel Anderson in the long jump and triple jump.

Meanwhile, the defending champion Albion girls track squad stayed perfect at 3-0 in N-O competition by downing visiting  Roy-Hart,   97-44. Albion’s boys completed the sweep by downing Roy-Hart (1-2 N-O), 79-62, to improve to 2-1.

Eboni Taylor was a triple winner in the 100 hurdles, long jump and triple jump and Abby Squicciarini doubled in the 100 and   200 to lead the way for the Albion girls.

Emma Lindke doubled in the 100 hurdles and high jump for the Lady Rams, who also got wins from Blair Yaiser (400), Andrea   Singleton (3000) and Liz Offhaus (discus).

Double winners Troy Greene (100, 200) and Marquise Riddick (400 hurdles, triple jump) led the Albion boys squad.

Frank Pfeil was a triple winner for Roy-Hart in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 and Tucker Ruhlen doubled in the 400 and long jump.   The Rams also had Stephen Soemann win the 110 high hurdles.

N-O BASEBALL

Newfane 4, Akron 0

AKRON —  Southpaw junior Reid Weber tossed the complete game victory on the hill for the Panthers.

Reid fanned five, walked two and scattered six hits.

Scott Kneeland had two hits with a double on a cold night. Brian Ratajczak added an RBI single for Newfane, which next plays   at Medina on Friday.

Barker 6, CSAT 4

BARKER — The Raiders used a big, three-run fifth inning to overcome 3-2 deficit and hold on over CSAT on Tuesday.

Winning pitcher Tyler Gregorie tossed six full  frames, while Spencer Moore earned the save.

At the plate, Barker’s Austin Blackley was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Alonzo St. Louis doubled and scored on a   Zach Shaft RBI. Josh Bergman also had a base hit for the winners.

Wilson 4, Roy-Hart 1

WILSON — Brad Schlosser hurled a two-hitter with four strikeouts to lead the Lakemen past the visiting Rams.

Cam Sidote and Mike Thompson each had two hits to spark Wilson at the plate. Sidote’s hits included a double and drove in   two runs.

N-O TENNIS

Medina 4, Roy-Hart 1.5

GASPORT — Improving to 3-1, the visiting Mustangs bested Roy-Hart on Tuesday.

Straight set wins by Chris Horgan at first singles and Ryan Bailey at third singles led the way for Medina.

Kurtis Parker won at second singles for the Rams (0-3 N-O).

Barker 3.5, Newfane 2

Barker stayed perfect at 3-0 by downing Newfane as singles victories by Derek Fuerch and Zach Smolinsky led the way.

The Raiders also got doubles wins from the teams of Sean Benoit-Brian Hefferon and Madeline Klatt-Mike Schian.

Steve Lakes took the second singles match for the Panthers (2-2 N-O).

Wilson 5.5, Akron 0

The Lakemen improved to 4-1 in the league.

Straight set singles wins by the trio of Zach Moxham, George Waters and Isaiah Barrett set the pace for the winners.
