CITY OF LOCKPORT: Phatman snowboarding premiers video

Some local snowboarders are going to the big screen Friday at the Palace Theatre.

Phatman board shop is premiering a snowboarding film, “Here & There.” The movie will feature the local Phatman snowboard team, “The K.B. Army.” The doors open at 6 p.m., and the snowboard team will be available for an autograph signing.

The show begins at 9 p.m., and the cost is $5 to the public, which includes a raffle ticket for a chance to win more than $3,000 in products.

The movie will also be shown with RedBull’s $3 million snowboard video, “That’s it, That’s all.” Phatman owner and Lockport native Chris Naugle said “Here & There” was an attempt to draw attention to local snowboarders, like last year’s video. Phatman premiered a film “Get Some!” which featured skateboarders and snowboarders.

“We’re going to have the team arrive in a limo, and the red carpet will be out,” Naugle said.

The films are an attempt to show off the skills of the team. Naugle said Phatman is expecting between 500 and 1,000 people to attend.

“We’ve already had about 400 confirmed,” he said.

Phatman board shop opened its doors in 1994 at the Lockport Mall. The stores grew and expanded to the Boulevard Mall, Orchard Park, Sheridan Drive in Tonawanda and Transit Road in Amherst. Phatman opened “Kingpin Skate Park” on Market Street in Lockport. It remained open for more than three years until the park had to close the doors due to decreased business and high rent.

A non-profit organization was formed and after two years, along with the City of Lockport, opened “The Railyard,” a Free Skate park located in Outwater Park.
