ASSAULT: Ronald J. Slade, 40, 51 Franklin Ave., Apt. 4, was charged Saturday with third-degree assault and third degree menacing. The police responded to Rite Aid on South Transit and High Street at 6:30 p.m. in reference to a customer who allegedly attacked a clerk. Slade was located and he denied having an encounter with the employee. According to the report, Slade was angry because the store would not cash his Western Union check. He left the store, but left his sunglasses on the counter. The manager went outside the store to return the glasses, but became frightened. According the employee, Slade was waiting for her. When she turned to run back into the store, Slade swore at her, pushed her, grabbed her by the shoulders and punched her in the shoulders and ribs several times before fleeing the scene.
