City of Lockport
MARIJUANA: Brandon J. Sprung, 17, 474 Chestnut St., the Woodlands, was charged Saturday with unlawful possession of marijuana. The patrol observed a suspicious vehicle at a parking lot on Davison Road at 8:30 p.m. There was a strong odor of marijuana, and marijuana was located in the driver’s seat, according to the police report. A passenger was not charged.
HARASSMENT: Kenneth L. Day, 43, 201 Floss St., Buffalo, was charged Saturday with second-degree harassment and second-degree criminal trespass. At 9 p.m., the patrol responded to Elmwood Avenue for the second time. There was an ongoing argument and a second party felt threatened and wanted to leave. According to the report, Day grabbed the throat of the victim to the point where he could not breathe. A witness called police. The victim, who had marks on his neck, signed a voluntary statement.
MARIJUANA: Robert E. Darrow, 26, 6262 Robinson Road, Apt. 16, was charged Saturday with unlawful possession of marijuana. At 12:26 p.m. a vehicle was stopped on Locust Street for a traffic infraction. Darrow, a passenger, was reportedly found with small bag of marijuana and booked at the police station. The driver was issued a traffic ticket.
Wheatfield
CHARGED: Alexander T. Skupien, 18, 1459 Forbes St., North Tonawanda, was charged Sunday with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, inadequate windshield wipers, no seat belt, operating an unregistered motor vehicle and tinted side windows. The patrol made a traffic stop at 2:10 a.m. on Luther Street for side-wing tint violation. According to the report, there was a strong odor of marihuana and the patrol saw ashes on the lap of Skupien. Skupien reached in his center console and handed patrol a plastic sandwich baggie with green leafy vegetable type matter in it. It weighed more than 25 grams and field-tested positive for marijuana. According to the report, Skupien said, “I just got that from Niagara Falls, for a concert me and my buddies are going to. It cost me 200 buckaroos. Any chance of letting bygones be bygones, and you giving it back?” He was placed under arrest and given and appearance ticket for a Feb. 23 court date.
Hartland
CHARGED: Melissa J. Newbury, 24, 953 Hudson Ave., Rochester, was charged Sunday with endangering welfare of child. At 12:25 a.m. the patrol responded to Hartland Road for the report of a female walking a 6-month-old baby in a stroller southbound from 2297 Hartland Road. The patrol located Melissa and her husband walking a stroller that contained a baby. It was 4 degrees and the trio was immediately placed inside a patrol vehicle. According to the husband, Melissa became involved in a verbal argument with the homeowner and his wife left the residence with their child. The husband said he tried to stop Melissa from leaving. The baby was wrapped in a thin blanket and was wearing a jacket. The baby was released to his father and were both transported back to 2297 Hartland Road with the homeowner’s permission. Patrol requested Rural Metro to transport the mother for a mental evaluation. She was later transported to Medina Memorial Hospital and issued an appearance ticket.

Witness’ credibility questioned in Greco murder case
The defense attorney in the case against Anthony J. Allen — accused of murdering a group counselor on East Avenue last year — has until Aug. 23 to prove the prosecution’s expert witness is not a credible source.

Five indicted in casino fraud case
A federal grand jury has indicted five people on bank fraud-related charges involving thefts from casino-based ATMs, including some at Seneca Nation operations in Niagara Falls and elsewhere.
Charged in the four-count indictment are Jia Ming Huang, Rungen Huang, Zhen Qiang Liang, Chang Keng Zheng aka Yu Zheng and Siu S. Cheng. All the defendants live in either New York or Florida. - Police blotter published July 27, 2010

2 burglaries reported at Royalton Airport
Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a report of an alleged burglary and attempted burglary at the Royalton Airport on Mackey Road on Sunday and Monday.
