Lockport police say they are getting a good response from the public as they close in on the remaining suspects in the Sept. 7 armed robbery of Kentucky Fried Chicken on West Avenue.

Capt. Richard Podgers also revealed Monday that officers say there are a total of four suspects in the robbery.

He said friends and family have confirmed that the second suspect, Anthony C. Richardson, 21, is still in the Greater Rochester Area. “As of the other day, he was last seen in Oakfield-Batavia,” Podgers said. “And as the investigation stands now, he’s still in either Monroe, Genesee or Orleans counties.”

Richardson is wanted on two counts of first-degree robbery.

One suspect, David L. Nelson, 26, has already been charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault.

Police and detectives said they are working with the district attorney and are close to closing the case. “There have been no major complications in the investigation process,” Podgers said.

During the robbery last month, a Lockport police lieutenant was injured when the group of armed robbers hit the KFC.

“Richardson was armed with handgun at the scene,” Police Chief Lawrence Eggert said. “We believe he was the driver of the car that hit Lt. (Brian) Wentland.” The suspect intentionally assaulted Wentland by striking him with the escape vehicle, Eggert said.

Wentland was treated and released the same day he was hit, and returned back to work the next day, Podgers said.
