BLOTTER: Police reports published May 6

Royalton

• BURGLARY: A Slayton Settlement Road man reported Monday evening that someone entered his home sometime during the day and stole a bottle of 100 hydrocodone pills. The man said he’d had a key hidden on his property, but it had been stolen a while ago, and since then, there has been an ongoing problem of pills and money being taken from the home. Due to the ongoing problem, the man said he had left the prescription bottle in a dresser drawer and left a T-shirt sticking out so he could tell if someone had touched the drawer. He said there is a new oil spot in the driveway, possibly from a suspect vehicle, the report said.

Wheatfield

• FOUND GUN: A Shawnee Road man reported Monday evening that while he was cutting grass on his lawn, he discovered a small handgun near the front of his property. Deputies responded and secured the gun. A check of the serial number revealed the gun did not have a record, the report said.

Town of Niagara

• DRUGS: Bobby P. Luben, 38, 2403 Pierce Ave., Niagara Falls, was charged Tuesday morning with unlawful possession of marijuana, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving with obstructed vision after a 9:49 a.m. traffic stop on Hyde Park Boulevard. Deputies reportedly stopped Luben after seeing numerous items hanging from his rearview mirror, and he was placed under arrest for allegedly driving with a suspended license. Deputies searched the car due to a strong odor of marijuana and reportedly found a baggie containing marijuana in the center console. Deputies also found a glass pipe, the report said. Luben was held in lieu of $250 bail and is due Thursday in Niagara Town Court.

  • Police blotter items published Feb. 17, 2012

    DWI: Mathew R. Castaldo, 22, 139 Cottage St. was charged with driving while intoxicated and a one-way street violation Thursday. According to the report, Castaldo was driving the wrong way on Heritage Court at 1:40 a.m. There was an odor of alcoholic beverage and Castaldo had glassy, blood-shot eyes. He failed field sobriety tests.

  • Police blotter items published Feb. 16, 2012

    MARIJUANA: Thomas E. Jones, 64, 230 Park Ave. was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana and growing cannabis Wednesday. On Sept. 9, 2011 the police found suspected marijuana growing on the back deck of a Park Avenue residence. Two 5-foot plants were found and confiscated. The plants were taken to the Niagara County Forensic Laboratory for analysis and results confirmed it was 17.28 ounces of marijuana. Jones turned himself in on Wednesday.

  • Police blotter items published Feb. 14, 2012

    MENACING: Kenneth W. Houghton Jr., 281 Walnut St. was charged with two counts of second-degree menacing Monday. Police responded to a report of a man with a knife at 12:10 a.m. According to the report, Houghton was outside a bar and had a knife inside his pocket. The victim said that Houghton pulled out a knife and threatened her. Houghton then turned to a male who said he was in fear for his safety. Neither victim has an physical injury. The woman requested a full order of protection.

    RESISTING ARREST: Peter R. Cassenti, 36, 6554 Lincoln Place, Apt. G, was arrested Saturday for an outstanding warrant for arrest and resisting arrest. According to the report, police were informed that Cassenti, who was wanted on a warrant, was at 415 High St. Cassenti exited the building while police began to set up a perimeter and ran back towards the house after seeing the reporting officer. The officer yelled for Cassenti to stop and informed him that he was under arrest. He refused the order and ran back into the residence, slamming the door shut. The officer was in close pursuit and breached the front door. Cassenti was located hiding in a bedroom closet and was non-compliant with the officer’s orders, having to be physically subdued and handcuffed. He is scheduled to appear Wednesday in City Court.

    SUSPICIOUS VEHICLE: The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle Friday. According to the report, a young boy was approached by an unknown male as he was getting off of his school bus Thursday afternoon. As the boy walked on the driveway towards his house, the man said, “hey, come here” from inside of his vehicle. The boy told the officer that the truck sped off as he began to run towards his house. The boy described the man as a middle-aged white male with short black hair, who was driving a dark green pickup truck, possibly a Ford, with plow equipment on the front of the vehicle but without the plow installed. The boy’s mother told the officer that two girls who also ride her son’s school bus reported that the same male and vehicle had approached them Thursday. The Wilson School District, the bus driver and police were all contacted, and the NCSO created an area check for the vehicle and the man.

    CRIMINAL IMPERSONATION: Terry L. Wilson, 33, 15 Grove St., Buffalo, was charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, criminal impersonation and operating a motor vehicle with obstructed vision Wednesday. The sheriff’s patrol observed a vehicle pull into the lot of the Niagara County Jail with the driver’s view obstructed at 1:39 p.m. According to the report, Wilson stated that he was there to visit his girlfriend. He said he did not have his license on him and identified himself as Terrell N. Wilson. The driver’s license check showed Terrell Wilson to be suspended. The suspect was searched and the driver identified as Terry L. Wilson. The driver stated that he was Terry and knew his license was suspended that’s why he gave his brother’s name. He did not know his brother Terrell was also suspended. Terry stated that he was going to have to call his other girlfriend to bail him out and that she would now know why he was at jail — visiting a different girlfriend. He was turned over to the Niagara County Jail on $500 bail.

  • Police seek trio of would-be ring thieves

    Lockport Police are seeking three suspects allegedly involved in the attempted theft of a $2,650 ring from Mills Jewelers on Saturday.
    According to the police report, two African American males and a female entered the store at about 2 p.m. and created distractions to separate the staff and to get valuable jewels on top of the counters from within the secured cases.  After being in the store for about 25 minutes, one of the male suspects along with the female suspect cut a security cable holding a ring.

  • Police blotter items published Feb. 9, 2012

    CHARGED: Heidi L. Marciszewski, 30, 8688 Lake Road, Barker was charged with acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 on Wednesday. The sheriff’s patrol responded to the parking lot of Dollar Tree on South Transit Road for an unattended vehicle with a young child in it at 11:23 a.m. According to the report, the patrol saw Marciszewski enter the vehicle. There was 2-year old boy in a car seat in the rear of the vehicle. Marciszewski  was issued an appearance ticket and released.
