City of Lockport

CHARGED: Shawn K. Pittler, 24, 133 Chestnut St. was charged with criminal possession of stolen property Monday. According to the report, the police spotted Pittler operating a red dirt bike at high rate of speed on Price Street on June 17. Pittler refused to stop, but the bike stalled and he  attempted to kick start it. Pittler had a suspended license and was arrested. It was learned the dirt bike, valued at $7,000 was stolen and an arrest package was filed.

ASSAULT:  Joyce A. Schwarz, 38, 378 East Ave. second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon Sunday. Patrol responded for a disturbance at on East Avenue and found the victim was bleeding with a stab wounds in the back and arm. According to the report, the couple began to argue and Schwarz grabbed a silver knife and stabbed the victim multiple times. Schwarz changed her story multiple times. Both parties were treated at Eastern Niagara Hospital. 

DWI: Russell W. Harris, 53, 3964 Ridgelea Drive was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated unlicensed operation and speeding Friday. According to the report, Harris was seen going 45 mph in 30 mph zone on West High Street at 9:30 p.m. There was the odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath and he failed field sobriety tests. Harris had a revoked driver's license.

DWI: Matthew C. Smatana, 27, 98 Garden St. was charged with driving while intoxicated and tailgating Saturday. The police responded to a motor vehicle accident at 3:58 p.m. on Saturday on Clinton Street. According to the report, Smatana had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage, impaired motor coordination and bloodshot eyes. He failed field sobriety tests. 

Wilson

DWI: Alan R. Jancef, 21, 182 McChesney St. was charged with driving while intoxicated and moving from lane unsafely Sunday. According to the report, the sheriff's patrol observed a vehicle being operated erratically on Braley Road at 2:57 a.m. Jacef had glassy eyes, slurred speech and impaired motor skills. Jancef  failed field sobriety tests. Jancef's lawyer called and stated that Jancef would be refuse to take the chemical breath test. 

Town of Lockport

BURGLARY: A Lockwood Drive resident reported that someone entered the residence and removed his safe and bag of prescription medications Sunday. Items taken included $500 in cash, 13 bottles of prescriptions drugs, Harley Davidson Trading Cards, a black boot knife and personal papers.

Newfane

DWI: Anthony M. Safee, Olcott, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, endangering the welfare of a child, operating a vehicle while impaired by drugs and muffler and tail light violations. According to the report, the sheriff's patrol observed a vehicle with a very loud exhaust traveling east on Drake Settlement Road. The vehicle had no rear tail lights. Safee had bloodshot, glassy eyes and there a strong odor of burnt marihuana emanating from his mouth.  Safee failed field sobriety tests. Safee refused to submit to further chemical testing to the presence of drugs. He was transported to the jail and bail was set at $750. The front seat passenger was a 15-year old female.
