Cash stolen from Gasport restaurant

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A little more than $10 in change was stolen from a cash register at the Talk of the Town restaurant in Gasport last weekend.

The theft was discovered by the owner early Sunday when he arrived at the 4333 Main St. establishment to plow the parking lot, according to a report from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrol responded to the restaurant around 6:39 a.m. where the owner said that the rear east side window of the restaurant had been broken overnight and that money was missing from the cash register. According to the report, there were “smeared hand and finger prints” on the window but none were sufficient to be lifted for a database comparison.

The restaurant’s owner told the deputy that the window was last seen closed and locked at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday when the restaurant was closed. He added that the cash register had been entered and that $7.75 in quarters and $2.80 in dimes was missing, but it appeared that nothing else was missing.

Patrol observed foot prints in the snow leaving the broken window and heading south behind 4453 Main Street. The foot prints then turned west and headed into the street, where the trail ended because the streets had been plowed.

According to the report, the owner arrived to plow the lot around 5:15 a.m. when he discovered the broken window. Patrol also spoke with a neighbor who stated that he did not hear or see anything during the night.

Damage to the window was estimated at $150.
