Police prevent fight at Washburn, Walnut

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — A disturbance, triggered by the report of a handgun, resulted in the arrests of two young men at Walnut and Washburn streets at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Fernando Jesus Martinez, 17, 189 Washburn St. was charged with second-degree menacing and Christopher J. Martinez, 19, 189 Washburn St. was charged with obstruction of governmental administration and tampering with physical evidence.

Police responded to the report of a man who displayed a handgun in his waistband at South Street and Washburn and enroute found several people who appeared about to engage in a fight on Washburn near Walnut. 

Fernando Martinez began to walk away when he saw the police arrive. Martinez was ordered down to the ground at gunpoint and he complied. He was placed in handcuffs as a second patrol car arrived. No weapon was found.

The police spoke to witnesses and learned that Christopher Martinez may have placed the gun in a hooded sweatshirt and threw it on the porch of his residence. A black Marksman BB handgun was found.

 Fernando Martinez said he was involved in an argument with another person who walked by his residence and lifted his shirt to expose the handgun. The other man walked away and Fernando put his handgun in his tan sweatshirt and threw it on his porch. 

Fernando Martinez followed the other man to the corner of Washburn Street which was when the police arrived to break up the fight that peopel were about to engage in.
