Second burglary at store

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — For the second time in less than a week, investigators from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Department are probing a theft at a Gasport convenience store.

The manager of the Yellow Goose store at 7953 Rochester Road reported Thursday morning that several propane tanks were taken from a storage cage.

According to the report, the manager was opening the store around 5:30 a.m. when she made the discovery. The manager said she was shoveling snow when she noticed that the doors of the cage that holds the tanks were open.

She took a closer look and saw that a Masterlock keypad had been removed from the cage doors. Inside the cage, 19 propane tanks were missing. The manager said the cage holds 36 tanks and is “always full.”

There was no damage to the cage and there were no remains of the lock.

The manager told the deputy that the propane tanks are not inventoried and that Heritage Propane Express provides the tanks. She added that Heritage had replaced the empty tanks about six days earlier.

A night clerk closed the store at 10 p.m. Wednesday. The manager said she did not notice anything else taken from the property.

According to the report, the value of the 19 propane tanks is $1,028.67.

Deputies also responded to the Yellow Goose on Dec. 22 for a burglary report. An employee who arrived at 5:30 a.m. to open the store found that the front door window had been smashed.

It was determined that approximately 100 packs of cigarettes, an undetermined number of lottery tickets and about $300 in coins were taken in the break-in.

Both crimes remain under investigation.
