Fugitive found hiding in a closet

Lockport Union-Sun & Journal — An 18-year-old Lockport man, who was wanted by police, was captured while hiding in a closet on Genesee Street on Thursday.

Cedric Carpenter, 147 Ross St., was charged with criminal contempt, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.

According to the report, police were called by a homeowner to Genesee Street for an unwanted person at about 1:30 p.m. and learned Carpenter was in the closet. Police called out to him but he refused to come out. Police found him curled in a small ball in the closet under numerous garbage bags filled with clothes.

There is an active order of protection requiring Carpenter not to have any contact with a resident of the house.

Police asked why he was hiding and he reportedly replied, “I think there might be a warrant out for my arrest.”

Carpenter attempted to pull away numerous times despite being handcuffed. He was transported to police headquarters.
