Alleged drunk driver also texting
The Gasport woman accused of hitting two teen boys on Dysinger Road while she was driving intoxicated last week, was also found to be texting during the time of the accident, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office.
Amy J. Schumacher, 36, 8472 Chestnut Ridge Road, was charged with driving while intoxicated, however more charges are pending against her though the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, prosecutors said.
Schumacher is scheduled for Town of Lockport Court on Wednesday.
Pregnant woman sentenced to prison
A Lockport woman and expecting mother was sentenced Wednesday afternoon in Niagara County Court to two years in state prison and a year probation for a drug conviction, in addition to one year in Niagara County Jail on a burglary conviction.
Cori Lynn Hubert, 28, 3624 Day Road, was charged last year and pleaded guilty to fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance after she reportedly sold cocaine to an undercover police informant on Dysinger Road in February of 2008.
This year, Hubert pleaded guilty to third-degree attempted burglary after she admitted helping a man steal a purse from an apartment on Ontario Street last February.
According to Lockport police, Hubert knocked on the victim’s home asking to use the phone, while the man stole the resident’s purse.
Her attorney Michael H. White Jr., blamed his clients actions on drug addiction and said she needed help overcoming it.
“My drug addiction has taken me to very extreme problems,” Hubert told Judge Matthew J. Murphy III.
“You’ve been in front of me more than anyone in the last two years,” Murphy told her before sentencing.
Hubert’s other charges include petit larceny after Niagara County Sheriff’s deputies said she stole hair dye worth $18.98 from Tops.
And in March was charged with fifth-degree possession of stolen property. A report from Lockport police said the victim told police Hubert came to her house in February attempting to sell food stamps and then left the residence after allegedly stealing the victim’s camera and selling it at a pawn shop.
