PENDLETON — The town will save roughly $10,000 this year in insurance costs after putting its business out to wider bid.
The Evans Agency of Lockport, which has the town’s business now, submitted the winning bid by Houston Casualty to provide liability and other types of insurance for $38,917.
The same agency lined up the same coverage for close to $49,000 last year, according to council member Ronald Morrison
In the past, the town let the agency obtain the bids, but this year changed the process; agencies were invited to submit offers by one or two carriers based on town specifications, and the board would contract with the lowest bidder among them all.
A lowest bid tentatively accepted last week by the board in a work session was later disqualified upon the discovery the bid left out coverage of a town park site, Morrison said.
