FMC Corp., in cooperation with the Middleport Sesquicentennial Committee, has announced a promotion and contest for local residents, businesses and Royalton-Hartland School District students: Help name the Top 10 Reasons to Live, Work, Learn and Play in Middleport.
The winning Top 10 will be unveiled Sept. 5 as part of Middleport’s annual festivities and as part of the sesquicentennial celebration.
Residents can submit their top reasons online at www.middleportny.com. Forms can also be picked up at the Middleport Village Hall, FMC’s 15 Main St. office and at several Middleport businesses.
When completed, entries can be mailed to 17 Vernon St., Middleport, or dropped off at Village Hall. Signs are posted at the businesses where the contest entry forms are available.
“Top 10 Reasons” contest forms will be made available to students at the Royalton-Hartland Elementary School, and the contest entry details will be announced to students at the middle and high school.
Anyone who competes will be eligible to win one of five $50 gift certificates to Middleport businesses.
A committee of volunteers will review the submissions and select the top 10 reasons to live, work, play and learn in Middleport. The contest will run through Aug. 1.
A village of 1,917 people, Middleport was ranked 11th in “Great Places to Raise Kids — For Less” in a special report by BusinessWeek magazine in November 2007. BusinessWeek worked with national real estate researcher OnBoard to prepare a list of 50 places in the United States that offer families “the right combination of safety, community, and education.”
The criteria the magazine used were student test scores, cost of living, recreational and cultural activities, number of schools and risk of crime.
