LOCKPORT —
After conquering his opponents on the grid-iron throughout his high school and college careers, Lockport’s Corey Balcerzak is setting his sights on a professional football career.
Balcerzak, a First Team All-American senior offensive tackle at St. John Fisher College, has been invited to at least two National Football League combines in the coming off-season.
The son of Jeff and Dyan (Mulvey) Balcerzak is a 2008 graduate of Lockport High School, where he earned numerous awards and post season honors and was considered one of the top linemen in all of Western New York. Among his prestigious awards were All-Western New York and All-State.
He went on to St. John Fisher to pursue a passion for physics and football and excelled in both.
This past season, Corey anchored an offensive line that produced 4,511 yards of total offense (2,550 rushing and 1,961 passing) for an average of 29.2 points per game. The Cardinals finished ranked 39th in the nation in sacks allowed and 54th in rushing offense.
Among many other accolades earned last fall, Corey was named to the Empire Eight Conference’s Offensive First Team and All-East Region First Team.
Strong as a bull, Balcerzak is known in this community as someone with a tender heart off the field, as he often gives back by donating his time and attention to those less fortunate.
Balcerzak was a 2011 co-captain at St. John Fisher College in Rochester under East Region “Coach of the Year” Paul Vosburgh, also a Lockport native.
Working hard to be the best he could be throughout his life, Corey has begun personal training in Rochester with a hope of playing pro football.
Balcerzak and his family and friends are inviting believers to join the “Got Beef-Need Dough” team to help him reach the goal. Corey’s quest, titled, “Corey’s Got The Beef, Needs Dough To GoPro!” is at IndieGoGo.com.
Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Family Restaurant and Pub is hosting some fundraising events in his honor. For a $20 donation, Corey will treat you to a traditional beef-on-weck party, following his first NFL game. With a $50 contribution, Corey will invite you to his first post-game beef party and will personally meet and treat you to a Beef-on-Weck following his first NFL Season. And for a $100 contribution, Corey will personally meet and treat you to a Beef-on-Weck celebration party following his NFL contract signing. He will also provide you with one ticket to one of his NFL season games as well as a “beef and greet” autographed photo. For $500, you will receive all of the above perks as well as a ticket to his first Super Bowl game.
An avid supporter and participant at Camp Good Days, Corey’s passion for giving back began years ago when he worked as a rec leader for the Lockport Department of Youth & Recreation Services.
“I am a down to earth, easy going kind of guy. I take things as they come and deal with them accordingly,” Balcerzak told The College Network. “I have a loving family that helps me through a lot and have made me who I am today.”
Balcerzak will be the guest bartender at Lock 34 downtown for this year’s Super Bowl. He has three siblings, Colton, Chaelyn and Chelby.
