Six pulled from Lake Ontario

SOMERSET — Six people inlcuding two adults and four children were pulled from the waters of Lake Ontario, off Somerset, Monday afternoon after their boat sank.

Niagara County 911 dispatchers received a cell phone call around 2:10 p.m. of a boat in distress, then lost contact with the caller.

Fire crews form Olcott and Barker, along with the sheriff's department, Coast Guard and Border Patrol headed for the area of the call, which was reported to be near the AES Somerset plant.

At 2;35 p.m. border patrol found the victims, reporting "multiple people" in the water. Early reports indicate the boat went down about three-quarters of a mile off shore.

The six-member group was pulled safely from the water and were being returned to Olcott Harbor.
